Some recent paintings

I've recently started to combine paint with collage, using a range of oriental and found papers.

Sometimes I use still-life objects as a reference.

Sometimes I work semi-abstractly, superimposing various elements of paint and collage. These are my most personal paintings, and are based upon song titles, or embedded fragments of old diaries.

And sometimes I use my own photos of places I know or have visited as a starting-point. I don't aim to reconstruct a realistic 'copy' of landscape. Instead, I use the outlines of landscape as a sort of template. Working in and around the template, I feel free to experiment with texture, colour and form - leaving myself open to accident and surprise.

Not an excuse, but the textural quality of the collage is not always visible on the screen.

Comments welcome.
